Our Goals

Our objective is to build on the progressive foundations of the current program. We will add teaching capacity, courses, scholarships, undergraduate research opportunities, and community outreach initiatives locally, nationally and international, to ensure that our graduates are well equipped to promote social change and public health in the years ahead.

We are seeking private contributions for the public good. With your support we will deliver a comprehensive and focused program of study in which students can learn through direct participation in Canadian and global communities. A gift to the Health Studies Program at University College will ensure that knowledge of and research into health and health care for Canadians is discussed, researched and disseminated. Your contribution will help ensure that the gains of the past are not lost and the promise of the future is realized.

Thus, we are seeking to endow the program and name it after the “Greatest Canadian”, Tommy Douglas.

To further ensure a permanent core faculty complement for the Health Studies Program, with guaranteed long term funding, we seek to endow and name three professorships named after Canadians who have made seminal contributions to social justice, human rights and the health of Canadians and human rights. These will be The Professorship in Health and Human Rights, The Professorship in Ethics and Well-Being and The Professorship in Health Policy.

We also seek support for our Curriculum Development Fund, for Scholarships in Health Studies as well as support for our Annual Health Studies Research Symposium.

Your gift will help to educate young leaders with a deep understanding of the role of health in maintaining and promoting prosperous Canadian communities and global societies.
