The Health Studies Program is training a new generation of young people to continue the struggle to preserve and extend the health and well-being of Canadians and people around the world. We select highly motivated students who exhibit a passion for learning about health and participating in the the creation of healthy communities. Health Studies students have initiated the creation of student groups who actively promote health and health care. Their research within communities in Toronto and around the world also enables Health Studies students to directly contribute learning within our Program.

Our students come from highly varied background, both in their academic pursuits and interests. Combined with our highly interactive classes, Health Studies students are engaged in critical learning in health and health care. Our Program also gives students that opportunity o learning “how to teach” by being responsible for the preparation and presentation of materials throughout the course in Health Studies.

Students in the Health Studies Program are well prepared for further academic studies in disciplines such as medicine, public health or graduate studies in a number of disciplines in health and health care. Our students have also made contributions to research projects in Canada and around the world. This work has allowed some of our students to participate in and present their work at major international conferences such as the World AIDS Conference in Mexico City.
